SNAKE ISLAND in Pangasinan??????

SNAKE ISLAND

WHAT??? Snake Island???

YES! We do have an island of snakessss in Dasol, Pangasinan! It is CULIBRA ISLAND just miles away from Manila. It is also called Colebra island or previously known as Camaso Island, but don’t worry, we haven’t seen a single sea snake as the name implies.

It may look tiny in Google Earth;

But it is a perfect getaway to refresh and enjoy the summer heat!

HOW TO GET THERE!

  1. From Cubao, ride a bus going to Alaminos, Pangasinan which will cost you P398.00. The travel time is only 6 hours via TPLEX. Thanks to TPLEX, it is now easier to travel to the North.
  2. Then you will arrive at the bus terminal, ride another bus bound to Sta. Cruz to go to Burgos, Pangasinan which will cost you P39.00.
  3. Next, you will be dropped off at Burgos Palengke where you can buy food and other necessities then you can hire a tricycle to bring you to Tambobong Beach. The tricycle ride cost us P100.00 per person which took us 30 minutes bumpy ride. The bumpy ride, however, is worth it when we arrived at the beautiful Tambobong white sand beach. The sand is as fine as the sand in Boracay.

  1. Then, ride a boat going to Culibra Island for P100.00 per person (round trip). It will take you roughly 30 minutes to get there.

CULIBRA ISLAND

Culibra Island is free of entrance but you can also rent a cottage for P350.00. You can also stay overnight without extra charge.

It amazes me that we have this kind of island near Manila with white sand and clear water.

The water is so pure and cold, that makes you want to stay in the water all day. That is the reason why most people who went here got sunburned. I endured my sunburn for a week!

CULIBRA ISLAND is just one of the magnificent islands in the Philippines. Hopefully, more generations can visit this island and as a Filipino, it is our responsibility to take care of what we have.

Mahuhumaling ka sa JOMALIG ( Humalig) Island

What made me go to Jomalig Island? What brought me to Jomalig Island?

I was in Bohol and trying to pass the time when I saw the map of the Philippines posted in the airport. I was trying to identify the places I have been when I saw a group of islands around Visayas area. A lot of islands are scattered in Visayas area and it is much easier to go to as it is close to Manila (where I currently live in) when I saw Jomalig Island. The name is quite interesting and then I thought I should go there. Actually, my travel instinct said so.

Then my friend Mikee, who also travels a lot invited me to one of Jomalig Island events and I immediately signed up for it. I think it is better to join events or travel package tours because the budget is fixed and the transportation is easier for most. I searched online for public transportation but it will take us 2 hours more travel time. I only have 2 days off and I have to make the most out of it which is always the case when I travel, but I highly recommend to spend 3 days and 2 night to Jomalig Island to give enough time to rest and explore the island.

How to get here?

Our trip is scheduled to leave on Friday night as it will take 4-5 hours to arrive at Real, Quezon port. We departed at 1AM (van/coaster) taking Rizal drive going to Real. We arrived at Real, Quezon port by 4:30AM. Then we took a boat going to Jomalig Island which is another 4 hours trip. I slept the whole trip, so it didn't really bother me but for others? Well, their butts hurt from the long trip. The one way boat ride costs P430.00 with free lunch. The free lunch is just a simple meal, a viand and rice. You should also bring your own bottle of water as water supply is limited. The boat left the port at 7AM and we arrived at Jomalig Island by 11:30AM.

My Experience..

The adventure does not start by the time you reach your destination but by the time when you actually start your trip.

It is one hell of a trip, I can say, almost 9 hours trip. That is the longest trip I have ever been and you are in a boat with 50 more strangers. The boat also has a second floor where you can rest on bamboo makeshift beds. The trip is long so you need to rest and get some energy.

We are just few minutes away from Jomalig Island and it was a wonderful sight. I got really excited and immediately brought my camera out. Just when the boat is docking on the shore, I took photos. It was the perfect time to take photos of the golden beach because you can see the perfect contrast of the sand and water.

Time check: 12noon

We immediately went to our camping site and fixed our things. While our organizers are still preparing food, we went for a walk to explore the beach. Some of the photos are taken from my iphone. No filters and no edits.

I think the perfect time for you to see the golden beach is around 2 in the afternoon where the sun is fully shining above you.

The sand also mimics the waves and it is made up of crushed corals giving it a golden vibe.

Agoho trees are also abundant on this island.

Then, we get back to the camp to have our early dinner. After dinner, we got a chance to see the sunset.

The next day, we woke up early and took more photos. The sun is already up by 6 in the morning.

And the best part is to swim in the salty cerulean waters of Jomalig Island. Crystal clear water it is!

The people in Jomalig Island are also accommodating and they let us use their bathrooms. We just gave them P80.00 as courtesy. You can also find kids asking if we need assistance on something. You can hire them to take care of your things or buy you food from the sari-sari store. At an early age , they know how to make some money. There are also sari-sari stores in the area, so having food and drinks will not be a problem. There is also poso or a deep-well so water source is also not a hassle.

Overall, we had an awesome experience in this island. Such a beauty and I hope people will take care of this island for future generations to see and experience.

Happy trip guys!

How to Enjoy Boracay in 3 Days???

How to Enjoy Boracay in 3 Days???

Summer is fast approaching and I believe you want to enjoy your vacation on a white beach.
Get your pen and paper ready and take note of my tips on how to travel to Boracay on a budget.

 1.       Book Flights early!

Certain airlines like Cebupacific and AirAsia have promos offering piso fare or ALL-IN fares. Book your flights ahead of time. For example, if you are planning to go to Boracay on December, book it 4-6 months early. It would be more affordable if you book your flight going to Kalibo rather than Caticlan. You just have to bear 2 hours of land transportation going to Caticlan Jetty Port. Another tip is to book your flights on the off-peak season (July-November) as it would be much cheaper and less crowded. I booked for 4 persons in Cebupac for P455 ALL-IN FARE promo and got our roundtrip tickets for only P9000 (no baggage allowance).

  2.       Travel Light!

No baggage allowance means cheaper fare. I am sure you don’t need too much clothing on the beach, all you need to bring are swim suits and travel gears.

  1.   Hotel Fishing!
It is an option to book your hotel early and you can find them online but we stayed in Villa De Oro Hotel, we got the air-conditioned family villa (6-8 persons) for ₱8000 per night with free breakfast and free wifi. Villa de Oro Hotel is located beachfront, Station 2, Boracay. You may also want to try Sunshine Place Boracay located beachfront, Station 1 Boracay. Their air-conditioned standard room ranges from ₱2000 - ₱3000 per night. They also have free wifi but no breakfast. I would highly suggest getting a hotel with free breakfast as it would save you money for food.

  1. Plan your itinerary
This would save you time, money and effort. There are a lot of blogs online giving you costs and activities. Don’t fuss because I will give you itinerary on how we enjoyed Boracay on a budget for 3 days!

  1. TAWAD!
Haggle all day! We all know this.. Work on a budget especially on food!

  1. The more, the merrier!
Group activities and food are much cheaper if you are on a large group. If you are a couple, then join the other groups.

Now, after these tips I have shared you, let’s go on our 3-Day itinerary.

Disclaimer: Prices may vary depending on the season. Prices may go higher if it is peak season.

HOBING Korean Dessert Cafe

Summer is just around the corner and what is the best way to enjoy summer??  Dessert!!!

HOBING Korean Dessert Cafe recently opened to give a refreshing start for the summer and they will bring Bingsus and toasts based on the same recipes of traditional Bingsus and toasts from Korea.

HOBING is a chinese term for Good Ice. (Ho=good; Bing=ice). HOBING Snow Dessert Cafe opened last 23rd of January, 2016 at BGC Stopover. They offer a variety of Bingsus and Toasts. BINGSU is a Korean term for Shaved Ice. Their bestsellers are Strawberry Bingsu, Mango Bingsu andChoco Brownie Bingsu and don't you worry, these Bingsus are made of Non-Fat milk! So you can eat their snow desserts without the guilt. Perfect for those who are on the loose.

1. STRAWBERRY BINGSU

Strawberry Bingsu- the shaved ice is made up of Non-Fat Yogurt, condensed milk and Non-fat milk and adding to the delight are the fresh strawberries on top BUT the shaved ice is also filled with strawberries. (hindi tinipid!) Regular- P215, Large- P330

2. Mango Bingsu

Mango Bingsu-the shaved ice is made up of Non-Fat Yogurt, condensed milk and Non-fat milk. This is my favorite bingsu, and as you can see the shaved ice is thickly filled with fresh sweet mangoes. It is also topped with fresh mangoes and drizzled with peach mango syrup. Tropical and refreshing! Regular- P125 (what a steal!) Large-P210

3. Choco Brownie Bingsu

Choco Brownie Bingsu- the shaved ice is made up of Non-Fat Yogurt, condensed milk, Non-fat milk and CHOCOLATE!! Overloaded with chocolate brownies, walnuts and drizzled with chocolate syrup. Regular- P235, Large- P360

Their ice were finely shaved but it doesn't melt easily which makes you enjoy the ice cream longer. The best way to eat your bingsu is not to mix the toppings with the shaved ice.

HOBING Bingsus are guaranteed refreshing and doesn't hurt the throat. Their serving size is just enough to satisfy your tummy! Their Large sized bingsu serves 3-4 persons.

You can also try Choco Fudge Bingsu, Injeolme Bingsu and Mango Cheese Bingsu.

Another way to eat your delicious bingsu is to eat it with Injeolme toast. Injoelme is a Korean sticky rice cake made by steaming and pounding glutinous rice flour.

Injeolme toasts are made of toasted bread filled with Injeolme.

The simple Injeolme toasts are topped with crushed peanuts or almonds, Korean soya –coffee powder mix and drizzled with honey butter. They also offer Cheese Injeolme toast, Garlic Injeolme toast and many more.

Their Bingsus are definitely worth trying!!! They also serve coffee, tea and rice cakes. Their service is excellent and I can guarantee that you will never go wrong with their Bingsus! Owners are very accommodating too.

You can visit them at 3rd Floor, Bonifacio Stopover, 31st Street Rizal Dr, Taguig, 1634 Metro Manila, Philippines. They will soon open in Lucky Chinatown Mall, Malate Area, SM Megamall and Ayala, Makati.
